15mm Fortnight Plans

Welcome to 15mm Fortnight - two solid weeks of nothing but 15mm SF terrain, modelling and painting!
We'll kick off the fortnight with TFH Ishoo Firty-Sven: 15mm Starport. The Starport in question is a small, backwoods colonial type place, but it can easily be added to and expanded. It's also a good starting point for a 15mm collection since it contains five decent size buildings and some smaller pieces. Time permitting, there might be some more small 'scatter' terrain as well.
The Starport consists of:
  • Admin/Control building
  • 2X Hanger/barracks
  • 2X Warehouse
  • 2X Fuel tanks
I was never completely happy with the 15mm Tiny Tuna Towers (but the 6mm one which I did not take step-by-step pics of is one of my favourite pieces - go figure!) so we're revisiting the concept to make the fuel tanks.

Next on the to-do list is Modelling For Hippos Ishoo Too: 15mm Shuttle. There's not much point building ourselves a nice space port without having anything to land there, so we'll be looking at a modest cargo shuttle. If you've never scratch built before, this design will be a good introduction; if kept it intentionally simple and fairly quick. I've also kept the donor-kit parts to a minimum, although you will need a 1/72 Hasegawa Panzer IV (any version, they all have the same basic sprues) for some detail and structural parts.

The last part of 15mm Fornight will be Painting For Hippos Ishoo Wun: 15mm Militia. Although these guys take almost no time to paint, meaning I could have them done really quickly and done first, I actuall have to go to Melbourne to buy some! We'll have a look at a quick and easy 15mm painting technique which will let you roll out whole armies in a minimum of time.

If time permits, there will be a few other things happening, some small scatter terrain items, possibly another painting article on a vehicle, possibly even an article on building a vehicle if there's a lot of spare time.

There's not much left to say, so I thought I'd just round off this post with links to a collection of blogs I've found really useful when I've been looking for ideas and inspiration for 15mm vehicles.
CONCEPT SHIPS - Wonderful concept art for space craft of all kinds.
CONCEPT ROBOTS - A Concept Ships spin-off devoted to robots and mecha.
CONCEPT VEHICLES - Another Concept Ships spin-off for land vehicles.
CONCEPT TANKS - The most recent Concept Ships spin off, and the smallest since it's so new.

See you in Ishoo Firty-Sven!

  1. Looking forward to this! The shuttle in particular, I have been trying to figure out how you get a shuttle from a PzIV, and am eager to see your results.
