Painting For Hippos ishoo Nin: Gaslands Mishkin Cars

Yesterday we built some electrically beweaponed Mishkin cars for Gaslands. Today we're going to look at painting them. Many figure painting techniques can be transferred to painting toy cars, but there are a few things to look of for - toy cars tend to have softer details for a start.
Here's Grot to guide you through the process.

Note: colours such as orange, yellow and red tend to be a bit thin and therefore require multiple coats to look good - you can improve their coverage by using a brown basecoat like this one.

Note: even with a basecoat, orange can still be a bit thin and streaky. It will depend on the brand of paint and exact shade - Vallejo model colour orange tends to need two coats to look right.

Note: You may need multiple coats of white to get a nice even coverage - even coverage is vital here so take your time.

Note: I use Tamiya clear colours for lights - they were developed for car modelers and have a very nice gloss finish. There is also an orange for painting indicators. All of them should be avaialable at your hobby shop, but if they are not, Vallejo inks should work basically the same.

Well, there you go Racing Hippo Fans! It doesn't take long to paint a gaslands team (especially when you realise this is almost two teams worth of cars - most teams have about three) so you can be out on the highways causing havoc within an afternoon!
Check back soon for either double-decker trucks or terrain depending on how I feel.

Painting For Hippos Ishoo Ate-Bee: Dwarf King's Hold Elves

Welcome back! We'd've been back sooner, but there was an unfortunate problem with the white undercoat spray, which meant stripping the elves and starting over...
Anyway, here we are with part two of our PFH feature on Dwarf King's Hold. This time we're painting the elves.

Well, there you have it! Dwarf King's Hold: Green Menace all ready for the table with a minimum of effort and fuss (apart from stripping the elves after to weird spotty white undercoat debacle...)
We'll be back soon with the long awaited Fighting Pit! And other exciting news! And reminders about the Terrain Compometition! Huzzah!

Meanwhile, here are some photos of DKH in action.

Painting For Hippos Ishoo Ate-Aye: Dwarf King's Hold Orcs.

Welcome once more hippo fans to another ishoo of Painting For Hippos. I recently picked up Dwarf King's Hold from Mantic Games, and it got me to thinking. Many board games come with miniatures these days, and, naturally you want to get the game on the table ASAP. But in the case of something like DKH, which uses Mantic's Kings of War range of miniatures as a source of it's pieces, there's a bit more involved. So over the two parts of Ishoo Ate we'll be looking at what you need to do to get your copy of Dwarf King's Hold: Green Menace onto the table as quickly as you can.
In this ishoo, Grot'll be looking at getting the Orcs ready...

Okay then, that's the orcs ready (obviously, you can paint all eight at once almost as quickly, but two seems to be about the right number for photo purposes.) Next ishoo, we'll tackle the elves and basing... and there will be shots of the completed set!

Don't forget about the annual terrain comp will you? The dead line's just over a month from now!

Painting For Hippos Ishoo Sven-Bee: Pretty Pictures of Savage Orcs.

Well, to keep the Hoodling and his insane demands for pictures of finished orcs with their bases finished as well happy, here are some pics of finished savage orc boar boys with their bases finished.

Sorry about the flash. I demolished my photo booth when I moved house with the intention of building something better, and it hasn't happened yet. The lighting n the living room where I have the games table is somewhat sub-optimal...

And don't forget to enter the Annual Terrain Compometition!
