    Maybe you need to try the updated Blogger interface. I find I can get images to appear where I want them if I add them as I go. Of course, mine randomly go sideways, but I think I have found a way to resolve this by editing the offending images in Picasa once I've uploaded them...

    Nice recap of your process! And we thank you for all the work you put in.

    I was going to say the same thing as Hoodling, that the new interface eliminates much of the "random" photo issues that Blogger has.

    I've had another look at the new interface to make sure I hadn't missed anything, and I've remembered what was wrong with it - you can only add one photo at a time via URLs. Since all my photos are hosted off site, and have to be uploaded via their URLs, this is a major annoyance for me.
